Renovations at Ulendo’s Satemwa Tea Estate in Malawi are coming along nicely and the property should be open by the end of July 2009.
The best news is that our horses have just arrived as well as Becx – the lady who will be in charge of the horses and all related activities.
Here is an introduction to the newest members of the “Ulendo family” –
Juba – 5yrs 15.1hh SA Warmblood, Chestnut gelding. A real fool, always getting into scrapes and has broken his fly rug in three places already!! Very loving and adores attention.
Destiny – 11yrs 15hh SA Warmblood, Chestnut gelding. Very highly schooled in a previous life and loving not having to work in an arena up here, quiet and steady and a ‘good doer’! (stays fat easily!!!)

Avalanche – 3yrs 14.3hh Boerperd, Dapple grey gelding. A real baby and throws tantrums in his stable if he is not fed first. Very sweet and quiet, loves playing with the other horses when he’s out in the paddock
Tapestry – 5yrs 15.2hh Boerperd, Dapple grey gelding. Steady as a rock. Very quiet and enjoys attention and grooming. He and Avalanche ‘play fight’ together in the paddock – he has quickly established himself as the boss when they are out grazing.
Storm – 4yrs 15.1hh Friesian X TB, Black gelding. Full of character, demands attention, loves being groomed. Definitely the ‘spoilt bratt’ of the group and always up to mischief! Another very ‘good doer’ indeed!
Chance – 6yrs 15.3hh Clydesdale X Percheron X TB, Bay mare. An absolute angel. She has spent the last three years having babies and is newer to riding work. Very quiet and gentle, she and Storm are firm friends.
Becx Whitefield has 16 years horse experience and has spend the last 5 years working in tourism in Zambia.
We will be offering two-hour trails through the tea and coffee growing areas on the estate in either the early morning or late afternoon. With over a hundred miles of roads/tracks, acres and acres of tea and coffee interspersed with pockets of lush rainforest or montane scrub, streams, copses and flat green airstrip, Satemwa is a horse riders paradise!
