A trek through the wild frontier of Northern Kenya…
The African Safari can take many forms, and what most people think of when they think of safari is cruising through the bush in a Land Rover seeing as many species of African wildlife as possible. African Latitude has, for twenty years, been pushing the boundaries of this safari experience. Their trips take clients to areas in Africa so remote, yet so unequivocally beautiful, that vehicles can not access these areas. Thus, these expeditions take place on foot.

Days 1, 2, 3 & 4 NAIROBI – SAMBURU GAME RESERVE
After one night to relax, we leave the busy Nairobi City and take a one and half hours flight to Samburu Game
Reserve where we camp for the next three days. Samburu Game Reserve is a picturesque reserve of semi-
desert savannah surrounded by the foothills of Mt. Kenya to the south and the Matthews Ranges to the north,
and separated in two by the river `Uaso Nyiro'. The animal life is both varied and prolific, and includes a number
of species that are not found in other areas, gerenuks, Grevy’s zebra and the reticulated giraffe.
Day 5 SAMBURU - KARISSIA HILLS
Leaving Samburu National reserve, we drive to Karissia Hills and set up our camp near Maralal – Mwatat for a
night.
Day 6 TREK KARISSIA MWATAT – KIKWAL
Samburu guides lead us on narrow forest paths. Wildlife is prolific so we must stay close to our guides. We may
glimpse elephant & leopard across the steep forest valleys.
DAY 7 TREK OLJORO OIBOR
Our second day trek sees us through Oljoro Oibor where we setup our camp for a deserving night rest.
Day 8 Maralal - PARASALOI – SOUTH HORR
Today we rejoin our vehicles. Passing through Northern Frontier towns where a melting pot of tribes congregate at the colorful local markets,
we stop to collect our own provisions. As we head north on small tracks, the landscape becomes more arid and
dramatic.
Day 9 SOUTH TURKANA
Continuing northwards through a lava beaconed desert where the horizon shimmers in the heat, the great 'Jade
Sea', Lake Turkana, finally appears through the haze.
Day 10 LAKE TURKANA
We arrive at Oasis Lodge in time for lunch. Appreciating the Oasis in the desert we relax in the shade of the
doum palm trees and appreciate a stroll in the small village of Loiyangalani. We take a late afternoon boat trip on
the lake, where Tiger fish, Tilapia and Giant Nile Perch abound. Water birds are abundant and the lake supports
a huge number of Nile crocodile.
Day 11 TURKANA/ NAIROBI
Morning is at leisure, followed by transfer to the airstrip for our afternoon flight back to Nairobi. Crossing the
amazing northern landscapes of the north we get a birds eye view from our aircraft. Enjoy the rest of the day in
Nairobi sightseeing and enjoying some find meals.
Day 12 NAIROBI
Enjoy your last day of sightseeing before your evening international flight home. Visit the Daphne Sheldrick
Elephant Orphanage, feed giraffes at the Giraffe Center, shop at some of the lovely boutiques in Karen and learn
more about the area’s history at the Karen Blixen Museum.
