This itinerary features the famous historical sights of Ethiopia. By driving from point to point guests have a chance to see some of the Ethiopia countryside as well as observe the local “way of life” as you drive through the towns and villages.
Day 1: Arrive at Bale International Airport (Addis Ababa) where you will be met by Dinknesh Ethiopia Tour representative and transfer to hotel. Overnight Sheraton or Hilton Addis Ababa Hotel.
Day 2: After breakfast drive to Debre Markos visiting the 13th century Debre Libanos Monastery and the Blue Nile Gorge. Overnight Shebel hotel.
Day 3: After breakfast drive to Bahir Dar. After check into the hotel enjoy a boat ride on Lake Tana to visit the famous ancient island monasteries. Overnight Tana, Summer Land or Papyrus hotel.
Day 4: After breakfast drive to Blue Nile Fall and visit the majestic falls. Continue driving to Gondar for overnight at Goha or Embassy Hotel.
Day 5: Sight seeing tour of Gondar visit the 17th C castles, the Bath of Fasilades, the monastery of Quskuam and the icon-rich church of Debre Berhan Silassie. Overnight Goha or Embassy Hotel. (World Heritage Site)
Day 6: After breakfast drive to Axum through the beautiful landscape and Tekeze River Gorge. Overnight Yeha or Remhai Hotel.
Day 7: Sight seeing tour of Axum that includes: St. Mary church where the original Arc of the Covenant is still said to be housed, visit Archeological museum, the Stelae Park, tombs, and palace ruins of Queen of Sheba (10th century BC). Overnight Yeha or Remhai Hotel. (World Heritage Site)
Day 8: After breakfast drive to Mekele via the rock churches of Tigray. Overnight at Axum or Hilltop hotel.
Day 9: After breakfast drive to Lalibela. This place is famous for the eleven monolithic rock hewn churches built by king Lalibela in the late 12th and early 13th century A.D. Overnight Roha or Jerusalem hotel. (World Heritage Site)
Day 10: Explore the three groups of rock churches of Lalibela. Overnight at Roha or Jerusalem Hotel
Day 11: Half-day morning excursion by mule to Asheton Mariam to visit the Church that lies on the top of the mountain. The Church itself is similar in style to other rock churches, but the panoramic view of the surroundings is spectacular from the mountaintop. Return to the hotel for lunch. Afternoon excursion to Neakuto Le’ab Monastery. King Neakuto Le’ab abdicated his throne in 1270 AD in preference for a hermit life in a cave. This cave, dramatically set, has become a monastery and houses an interesting collection of ancient crosses, illuminated manuscripts and icons. Overnight at Roha or Jerusalem Hotel.
Day 12: After breakfast drive to Dessie visiting Hayk Istifanos monastery en route. Overnight at Fasika Hotel.
Day 13: After breakfast drive back to Addis Ababa. Visiting the Amhara tribal village. Overnight at the Sheraton or Hilton Addis Ababa Hotel.
Day 14: Spend your last day in Ethiopia on a sightseeing tour of Addis. In the evening gather for a farewell dinner party with cultural entertainment and then transfer to the airport for your departure back to home.
