Over the past decade, Alfajiri Villas on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, have developed a world wide reputation of luxury and excellence in accommodation. The owners have taken this dedication to privacy, exclusivity and flexibility and expanded this concept to include a new safari approach for East Africa… Exclusive Kenya by Alfajiri Safaris. The following safari circuit takes travelers to the top wildlife destinations in Kenya, but always careful to avoid crowds and regions that may offer a less than spectacular wildlife experience. Throughout you’ll notice the focus on privacy. Perfect for families, honeymooners or anyone else looking to focus on one another and the stunning beauty of Africa.

Day 1: Arrive Nairobi’s JKIA international airport in the morning from international flight. Connect to Wilson (domestic) airport for scheduled domestic flight to SARUNI SAMBURU at 10:20am, arriving in the park at 11:30am. You will be met in Samburu by the camp and transferred to Saruni Samburu lodge for lunch.

Saruni Samburu is a design lodge located on Kalama Conservancy next to Samburu National Reserve, in Kenya’s wild North. Surrounded by a 95,000 hectares private reserve and perched on top of a spectacular viewpoint, its villas and its swimming pool overlook waterholes where the famous Samburu elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe and Grevy zebra gather to drink. The vastness and the purity of this African landscape, combined with the untouched local culture, will make your wildlife safari a different experience.

After lunch relax and enjoy the view, enjoy a walk in the area or enjoy the pool. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Days 2 and 3: Enjoy full day game drives both in the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy and the Samburu National Park. Northern Kenya is one of Africa’s last true wilderness areas. The absence of fences makes it one of the few places left that allows for the free movement of wildlife across a vast area. A red landscape dominated by acacia-grassland mosaic, with dramatic dry upland/montane forests rising from its plains, it is home to a wide diversity of species. Inhabited by pastoral tribes with rich traditional histories that are collectively striving both to protect its ecological integrity and their own livelihoods there is no better way for visitors to experience the real Africa.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: After an early morning game drive return to the lodge for breakfast and then transfer to the airstrip for scheduled flight to Nairobi at 11:40am. Connect to scheduled flight to Maasai Mara and arrive in time for lunch.

Mara Saruni is a deluxe safari lodge outside the famous Masai Mara National Reserve offering the thrill of a real African adventure coupled with the highest standards of style and comfort. With accommodation for only 12 guests in six cottages, it is set in a remote valley at the heart of the most exciting wilderness in Kenya. Come on safari with us, driving or walking among elephants, lions, zebras and endless other species of wild animals, accompanied in total safety by our professional guides in the magic of old Africa.

Overnight Mara Saruni in Mara Cottages

Days 5 and 6: Enjoy full day game drives in the Maasai Mara conservation area. The Masai Mara National Reserve of Kenya covers 1,672 square kilometres (more than 400,000 acres) and is situated between 1,500 and 2,100 metres above sea level. It is part of the Serengeti ecosystem that extends from northern Tanzania into southern Kenya. Around the Masai Mara National Reserve there are several “group ranches” or ancestral wildlife areas owned collectively by the Masai communities. The Lemek-Koyiaki Group Ranch, in which Saruni is set, has an area of 1,490 square kilometres (368,000 acres) and its natural treasures are managed by the several trusts set up and managed by the Masai people.

The Masai Mara region is considered the jewel of African wildlife and nowhere o¬n the continent can you find the same abundance and variety of wild animals. It is also a prime area for ornithologists and hundreds of different bird species have been recorded. The area is teeming with herbivores that, in turn, support large numbers of predators. Millions of wildebeest, gazelle, zebra, buffalo, impala, topi, hartebeest, giraffe, eland, elephant, dik-dik, hippo and warthog live their natural lifecycle alongside the largest population of lions in Kenya as well as cheetah, leopard, hyena and jackal. The Mara is also o¬ne of the best wilderness areas in Africa to observe rare species, like the rhino, the bat-eared fox or the nocturnal wildlife, from the bushbaby to the genet.

The scenery ranges from the rolling hills dotted with acacias, made famous by endless wildlife documentaries, to the lesser known mountains, rivers and valleys where the vegetation can be very green and lush.

The highlight of the Masai Mara is the famous annual migration of wildebeest that move north from the Serengeti in Tanzania each July-August in search of fresh grazing. After remaining here for three or four months they return south in October before the beginning of the rainy season. Watching millions of these animals traveling en mass is truly a humbling experience for human observers.

The Masai Mara is, above all, the home of the Maasai, a traditional semi-nomadic people known for their beauty, intelligence and a deep love and understanding of the African wilderness.

Dinner and Overnight at Mara Saruni.

Day 7: After early morning game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation before scheduled flight to Galdessa Private Camp, in Tsavo East National Park arriving at 3pm. After arrival at camp, around 4:30pm proceed on a walking safari along Luggard’s Falls. At the end of the walk enjoy sunset from the top of the hills, overlooking the vastness of Tsavo East National Park and the Yatta Plateau. Dinner and overnight at Galdessa Private Camp.

Days 8 and 9: Waking up with or before dawn, choose from early morning game drive or game walk, followed by a bush breakfast. Return to the camp to enjoy the view of the Galana river and the abundant wildlife in and around the river… just outside your tent! Lunch at camp, and in the afternoon enjoy a game drive or walk.

Galdessa Camp embodies a coastal/bush relaxed feel and is designed to blend with the environment using earthy colors and natural woods throughout. The camp is located along the Galana River under fringed doum palms and overlooks the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest and oldest fossilized lava flow. Private Camp consist of three comfortable and spacious thatched and semi-tented bungalows on wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom and private veranda. Guests are ensured their privacy as all of the bungalows are situated a good distance apart and natural foliage is used to subtly conceal neighboring bandas. The bathrooms are large and have traditional bucket showers, flush toilets and basins with running water.

Galdessa works closely with Kenya Wildlife Service’s black rhino re-introduction project. Within Galdessa’s vicinity there are 51 black rhino; Africa’s largest unfenced black rhino population. The camp has been built with great care not to adversely impact the environment and recycles its waste, uses solar power for electricity and has installed a water treatment plant. Galdessa’s founder, Pierre Mourgue d’Algue, is a trustee of the TUSK Trust which works to protect the environment and habitats of Africa and distributes in excess of 90% of the funds it raises directly into the field.

Dinner and overnight at Galdessa Private Camp.
