Sarah Fazendin, President
Biography: Widely recognized as one of the African travel industry’s leading young, dynamic experts, Sarah Fazendin has quickly become the safari industry’s “go to gal” when it comes to African tourism marketing consulting in the United States. After a successful career in advertising, Sarah managed all marketing and representation activity in North America for the Kenya Tourist Board between 2001 and 2006. In addition to managing all branding work for the destination, Sarah developed and executed their online travel trade specialist course (KATS) as well as trade show and roadshow events. Despite significant market challenges, Sarah led Kenya to a North American market rebound with year-on-year growth at nearly 50% in 2004 and again in 2005. With this impressive record, she developed key relationships and great respect in the travel and tourism industry.
In 2006, Sarah founded The Fazendin Portfolio, providing North American sales, marketing and public relations services to safari camps and lodges across Africa. Today, The Fazendin Portfolio is a highly-respected collection of some of Sarah’s personal favorite African travel destinations and experiences. The Fazendin Portfolio team continues to work hard training travel agents and tour operators in the United States to sell these special experiences as well as assist Africa-based travel companies to maintain strategic, sales-focused marketing programs in the United States. Sarah travels to Africa several times annually to inspect new properties and safari experiences and remains a valued source of information for the travel trade, the media and travelers on African travel trends and products.
Sarah values efficiency and sincerity in business and strives to open as many doors as possible for her clients, tapping into her impressive network of international travel industry contacts, while implementing cost-effective, results-oriented integrated marketing programs on their behalf. Active in the African travel and tourism industries, Sarah is the current president of the Rocky Mountain Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa chapter, an active member in the Adventure Travel Trade Association, speaking on Africa at their annual Adventure Travel World Summits and also guest lectures at Denver's Metro State University's tourism undergraduate program.
Sarah also regularly appears in the media speaking on African travel trends including most recently;
- National Geographic ADVENTURE magazine, speaking on 2008 post-presidential election violence and implications to the tourism industry.
- Featured in Fodor's South Africa guide book as an Africa expert.
- Budget Travel Magazine, again speaking on travel implications as a result of the 2008 post-presidential election violence in Kenya.
Sarah pens a regular blog on the topic of African travel trends as well as Secrets of the Serengeti, an online East African travel guide for today’s Experiential Traveler, and has a significant following of travel industry contacts on Facebook and Twitter. She regularly speaks at industry conferences on the application of social media for travel industry marketing, most recently leading a panel at the New York Times Travel show in February 2010.
Mallory Corbett, Director of Marketing - Southern Africa
Biography: While studying Mass Communications and Tourism Development and Management at Arizona State University, Mallory followed her love of travel spending time in Kenya, Spain, New Zealand, Eastern Europe, Australia and Fiji. In 2007 she worked for Earthlife Africa in South Africa, campaigning for an increase in renewable energy at the South African Parliament. Mallory also has a background in writing for the regional lifestyle magazines 944 and Item as well as media coordination in conjunction with the NFL for Super Bowl XLII.
With an ever-present passion for adventure, whether it is sky-diving over the Great Barrier Reef, Shark Diving near Cape Town, Canyoning in the Swiss Alps, Game drives in Maasi Mara, or walking safaris in Zambia, Mallory loves to share the thrill of traveling to Africa with eager travelers.
Driving day-to-day client business development at The Fazendin Portfolio’s clients, Mallory offers an accessible and personal marketing approach and enjoys facilitating introductions and creating long-lasting partnerships for The Fazendin Portfolio clients with top travel agents, tour operators and members of the media. Her aim is to make the lives of our trade partners easier through webinar agent trainings, new product launches, social media interaction, creating unique itineraries, updating the image gallery and generally keeping The Fazendin Portfolio associates top of mind with the trade.
When not fostering relationships with the travel trade, Mallory spends her time hiking, practicing yoga, reading the New York Times Best Sellers and some of the classic Africa novels and traveling to any destination possible whether it be Minnesota where she is from or the Caribbean where she loves to dive.
